The Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is an
international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations.
International co-operation for sustainable development needs alliances. GTZ has a worldwide network of partnerships in civil society and in economic and cultural spheres. It has always cooperated closely with other national and international development cooperation organizations. Since the mid-nineties, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), PROKLIMA has been providing technical and economic assistance in meeting the obligations of International Conventions, such as the Montreal Protocol.
The aim of GTZ PROKLIMA is to support developing countries of the South in
acquiring environmentally friendly alternatives to environmentally hazardous
substances and technologies. GTZ PROKLIMA provides consultancy services, as
well as assistance in the implementation of specific projects.
The Solar Chill project is a unique partnership among key international agencies, research and industry bodies. Using newly available compressor and converter technology, the SolarChill refrigerator overcomes many of the problems found with current solar refrigerators. SolarChill eliminates the reliance on batteries by directly storing energy in icepacks and thus maintaining vaccine-safe temperatures for up to five days without sun.
The SolarChill Project is fully compatible with the aims and mandate of GTZ Proklima as SolarChill will help replace environmentally less friendly technologies, and provide vaccine cooling and food refrigeration for parts of the world that toady lack adequate power supplies.
